What is Nameserver Checker?

Nameserver Checker shows which DNS nameservers are authoritative for any domain. Critical when migrating DNS providers, troubleshooting resolution failures, or verifying domain transfers. It queries root servers and walks the delegation chain for accurate results.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the domain name to check.
  2. Click Check to query authoritative nameservers.
  3. Review the list of NS records — these servers resolve your domain.
  4. Compare with what your registrar shows to make sure they match.
  5. If you changed nameservers recently, re-check after a few hours.

Frequently asked questions

What are nameservers?
Nameservers store all DNS records for your domain. When someone types your domain in a browser, their computer asks the nameservers where to find your website. If they go down, your domain becomes unreachable.
How long do nameserver changes take?
Typically 24-48 hours because delegation info is cached at the TLD level. Keep both old and new nameservers serving correct records during the transition.
Why do I see different nameservers than configured?
The change hasn't propagated yet, or you updated nameservers in the wrong place. They must be changed at your registrar, not your DNS hosting provider.
How many nameservers should a domain have?
At least two for redundancy. Most providers assign 2-4. If one goes offline, the others continue serving your records.
